Downtown Fargo
City living worth bragging about (not that we would)
Our entire metro area has a population of 240,000 people. While that’s not too big, it’s big enough. You’ll find amenities that you’d expect in cities two or three times our size. Our urban pockets might not be deep, but they’re packed with unique shops and boutiques, popular hangs, historic beauty, interesting art and colorful characters. You’ll find a buzzing area with tons of activity plus easy access to recreation and entertainment. It won’t take you long to find your niche (or build it from scratch).
Lake Country
Find Your Lake Place
On weekends, Fargo-Moorhead busts out the bathing suits. We buy bait, we burn firewood, we “go to the lake.” Whether you rent a cabin, build a vacation home, commute back and forth from lake country, or just drive out for the day, we’re a quick trip from dozens of placid ponds and lively lochs. Just follow the caravan headed east on Friday afternoon.
Some of the closest and most accessible Minnesota lake communities to Fargo include Detroit Lakes (45 minutes), Alexandria (1 hour, 30 minutes), Perham/Ottertail (1 hour, 15 minutes), and Park Rapids (1 hour, 30 minutes). They all have multiple resorts and rental home options as well as gorgeous homes for sale.
Small town living
The simple life is strong with us.
If you like small-town living, you can find close-knit neighborhoods and communities that feel just rightāwithin the metro footprint or throughout the greater region. Dilworth and Casselton, for example, are linked with some of the metro’s busiest business districts, but their cozy main-street simplicity captivates.
